Day 2: My First Doe
david gunderman
Daniel, my brother, and I got in the tree around 2pm. It was a windy day. Fortunately the wind was in our face and not blowing in the direction the deer had been entering the field the past few days. It was a bit chilly so we were expecting some good movement.  Just as the night before, the sun started to drop close to the horizon when one after one, 3 deer piled out into the field not 60 yds from our set.  As they came out I set my sights on the biggest doe in the group.  Knowing there was some good sign of the chase, I decided to wait to shoot until they were in the field for a good little bit to make sure nothing was following them.  As I watched them walk further and further away I wondered what to do.  Knowing I was loosing light and watching the deer continue to head down the hill I decided it was time.
I put the crosshairs on her shoulder and waited for my shot.  Just before shooting I looked the edge of the field over one last time and seeing nothing I reshouldered the gun and BOOM!!!!  Deer number two dropped in her tracks!  The two others ran 10 yds, looked around and went right back to eating.  As Daniel and I smiled with excitement he told me to chamber another shell and shoot another.  Shook from all the excitement I chambered another but could not steady myself to shoot again.  Finally, the sun set and we climbed down.

IMG_1439What a great two days!!!  Thanks to my brother and the rest of the 704 Outdoors crew for putting me in the hotspots for my hunts.
